Meet the Board

President- Peter Dauphinee

Peter Dauphinee is the current president and founder of Humboldt Association of Tennis. Co-founder of Humboldt Tennis Club (HTC), a USTA Community Tennis Association and Net Generation provider. Under his leadership HTC developed one of the most successful Junior programs in California winner of USTA Norcal League of the Year, 2017-Present United States Professional Tennis Association Redwood Regional Director, and Universal Tennis Rating event organizer. Author of The Student Athlete Success Journal, a daily guide for mental and physical success on and of the playing field. He received collegiate scholarship in fine art, award winning runner, and enjoys cycling, basketball and being a father and mentor. “I appreciate the dynamic lessons learned with each student athlete I get the opportunity to work with”

Vice President- Onawa Gutierrez

Onawa Gutierrez is a cofounder of Humboldt Tennis Club, which services the local community in developing and growing tennis in rural Humboldt and Del Norte counties. She has a graphic design degree from CCA, and co-created a success in tennis journal. Onawa is the boys & girls varsity tennis coach at Arcata High School and a substitute teacher.  

Treasure- Jerome Washington

Jerome Washington was born in Arkansas on May 12, 1975. Jerome’s family moved to South Central Los Angeles when he was 3 years old. After graduating high school graduation in 1993, Jerome attended Humboldt State University and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Natural Resource Planning. Jerome has worked as an Environmental Planner at the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) in the Eureka Office since 2005. Jerome Washington lives in McKinleyville with his wife and two kids.  Jerome Washington serves on the Board of Directors of SEIU Local 1000, Tigers Inc., and Humboldt Association of Tennis.

Secretary- Sheldon Heath

Sheldon Heath currently manages a local bakery/cafe with 50 employees and 80 wholesale accounts.  He has a bachelor’s degree from HSU along with certification in Dairy Products Technology from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Sheldon has competed at the highest levels in bread baking, including making the finals where 9 bakers competed for 1 spot on the USA Baking team. He is the current Chair on the Parks and Rec committee for the city of Arcata, Girls Tennis coach at Arcata High School, and daily tennis player and is especially interested in developing a blueprint for rural tennis communities to build and improve local tennis programs. Sheldon believes with HAT’s success tennis will be seen as a viable sport option for athletes who wish to pursue a sport to help fund college or other professional goals.  Rural sports do not have to be limited to Baseball, Football, Volleyball, or Basketball. His experience in helping to organize business and develop through parks and recreation programs will benefit HAT and the tennis community.

Member- Corey Lewis

Dr. Corey Lewis is owner of Sun Yi’s Academy of Taekwondo and MindBody Mastery Personal and Professional Development Coaching. He specializes in applying psychology to both sports and life, in order to enhance our enjoyment of and success in both arenas.

Member- John Albertini

John Albertini’s profession is a Urologist working in this community for the last 20 years. Involved in management of a private urologist practice and a multi specialty medical group. Currently serve as a Board member on St Joseph Health Medical Group. Experience in working with committed individuals to solve significant challenges. Personal interest in tennis that was expanded with my daughter involvement in the sport and participation in high school tennis. Recognized a need for an association to advocate the game of tennis in this community and support tennis development for all ages. Committed to support development of a tennis center to allow access to tennis for all individuals especially youth players. Promote both recreational tennis and competitive tennis for this community.

Member- Lana Troy

Liana Troy is from Chico California where she grew up playing tennis, soccer, and basketball. She attended Chico State where she received her BA, credential, and MA in Kinesiology with an emphasis in pedagogy. She moved to Humboldt in 2014 with her husband Stephen, and shortly after started a family. They have two children, Emerson and Connor. Liana is a physical education teacher at Sunny Brae Middle School. She has been teaching for over 7 years now. She taught and coached tennis and basketball in Chico before moving up north. She continues to coach basketball and has been working with other HAT board members to develop and summer camp tennis programs. She has 15 years of experience coaching  different ages and sports. Liana is passionate about improving and growing the game of tennis in Humboldt County. 

Member- Amy Ferron

Student Member- Reed Berman

Reed Berman is not merely a tennis player, but an inspiring leader in Humboldt tennis. He takes on both the role of an avid student and an ardent enthusiast in sports promotion in Humboldt. Reed Berman is always leading, but not only in play, at Arcata high school he shows how you can academically succeed despite adverse conditions. Understanding that sport can help build a community spirit and promote healthy living, he has taken part in several tennis tournaments. Reed Berman has demonstrated his strong efforts in improving the sport experience for all players in Humboldt. He has organized friendly matches as well as coached those who are new to Humboldt and created an exciting and inclusive tennis experience.

As a student board member, Reed intends to bring new thoughts and proposals on the board’s table so as to ensure that the HAT is vibrant and entertaining to all the tennis players. The main goal for him is to solidify the current tennis community and bring in more people within the community in an effort to promote wellness, team spirit and a sense of playing sports within the community.
